Hi, I am Megan Smedley, the proud owner of Saint Joseph Pilates. I grew-up in Southwest, Michigan and have been an athlete my entire life.  Competing in swimming, triathlons, and running have always been a few of my favorite things.  My athletic endeavors began as early as I can remember, actively competing for my middle and high school team, the Buchanan Bucks.  One of my best memories was in 1991, when my brother, Micheal and I both won the Michigan Cross Country State Championship.  

 

I continued my athletic career on a running scholarship at the University of Notre Dame.  With my degree in psychology, I moved to Colorado to pursue a healthy, active and adventurous lifestyle.  While in the mountains of Colorado, I discovered my love for Vinyasa Yoga. During a yogi training, my new found passion for yoga inspired me to pursue my masters in clinical mental health counseling from the University of Colorado.  My goal was to incorporate a mind-body connection in my therapeutic modality. 

 

After graduation, I moved back to my native SW Michigan and worked as a therapist in a clinic in South Bend. A year later, I was offered an opportunity working as a faculty member in the P.E. and Wellness Department at my alma mater, Notre Dame.  During that time, my athletic, competitive nature led me to the world of Crossfit.  However, a few injuries later, I needed to find a more balanced approach to functional fitness that would keep me injury free, and that’s when I discovered Pilates.  I instantly fell in love with the physical and psychological benefits.  After each class, I felt longer, stronger, leaner and mentally more aware.  Since then, I have pursued my ambition of bringing this transformative workout method to others.  On this life-long journey of fitness, wholeness, and health, I have come to believe that Pilates is the best way for anyone, no matter their fitness level, to achieve balance and functionality through the complete coordination of mind, body and spirit. I look forward to helping you achieve yours.
